The Otwee-Miami School of Hope was founded in 2011 and has had a connection to Miami University in Oxford, OH since its start. The civil war decimated the education system in the area for more than 30 years. In 2011, two Miami students worked with the Otwee community to build a primary school. The school stared with less than 100 students and now educates more than 1,000 students and growing, in large part due to the support of this student-run organization. We are in constant communication with David, the head of the school. We work with him throughout the year to determine the most pressing problems facing the school and how our fundraising can help supplement teachers salaries, purchase materials for new classrooms, school supplies, and water.
